As a part of my nerd/geekism, I love to Cosplay. From the outside there are a lot of different views on what Cosplaying is. I'm not going to tell you what other people think about it, just what I get from it. I love creating costumes of my favorite characters {Characters from comics, video games, anime, movies, cartoons, books...almost anything! Just characters that I really like} and then dressing up as them. Having photo shoots and going to conventions.
At conventions, other people who are doing the exact same thing are there. It's awesome. At cons you get to meet famous people; artist and actors and other lovers of what you have done. You get to share ideas and meet new people...and they always have stores that sell pretty awesome gear, collectibles, comics....its a fun and loving community that you can feel accepted into no matter how extreme your NERDy-ness is or isn't.
One of the most exciting parts for me is making and piecing together my own costumes. I've made all of the costumes I wear and I've helped quite a few other people with theirs as well. I already knew how to sew before I really got into the cosplaying world but it has furthered my sewing knowledge. I help my husband with his and a few years ago we actually made costumes that went together and it was SO much fun! Having people you can cosplay with makes it a thousand times more fun. I can't wait for my little man to arrive. I already have so many ideas of cosplays for him and our family that will just be awesome!
If you have any questions please feel free to ask, if it's a world you aren't familiar with I can definitely see how it may look strange. Just think of it as a GLORIFIED halloween that happens many times throughout the year. And really....who doesn't like dressing up?
